Virtual Author Visits
Is your book club interested in author visits or virtual book discussions? I’d be delighted to attend your next meeting virtually through Zoom to discuss any of my books, including Carrying Independence, Mary Angela’s Kitchen, or Bonjour 40: A Paris Travel Log. And if you’re a group of writers, I’d be thrilled to share tips on author marketing from my workbook, Brand the Author (Not the Book).
To schedule or learn more about book club appearances, don’t hesitate to contact me directly. Review the information below regarding how visits work, then let me know if you have any questions.
Benefits of Inviting an Author to your Book Club
When you invite an author to your book club, it truly is a unique and fun experience for you and the author. You get to ask those questions you might wonder about while you’re reading. What portions of my historical novel were real? Are my characters—like Arthur or Mary Angela—based on anyone in my real life? Or the often asked… how long did it take to write my novel? (One took me less than a year, and another was nearly ten years in the making.)
As an author visiting your book club, it’s also my chance to hear from you, my dear readers. I get to learn about what moments and settings you loved most. Often enough, readers tell me which characters they identify with. Or they share snippets of their own family stories. On more than one occasion, it was especially exciting when a reader announced that their ancestor was one of the real historical figures I wrote about in my book, Carrying Independence.
How a Virtual Author Visit Works
It’s simple, really! Read the book and schedule an author visit. My special book club packages include a 30-45 minute ZOOM attendance and a PDF of historic- or book-related recipe suggestions. (For central Virginia book clubs, sometimes I am able to join you in person.)
It’s best if I arrive about 10-15 minutes after you all gather, so you have time to chit-chat, and ensure everyone has arrived.
The structure of the book club discussion is up to you. You can send me questions ahead of time. If I have reader questions in the back of the book, we can simply go through them. Or, everyone can bring a question and the book club discussion goes where it does.
